Methane leak and vapour cloud explosion
Context and objectives
As part of a study of the resistance of a concrete shelter containing a wellhead and pipes over a cavity LPG storage at Lavera refinery (France), it is necessary to carry out explosion simulations to determine pressure loads on walls, internal structures and equipments.
Our success
An analytical study was first conducted to determine which vents can be neglected, and the maximum overpressure reached in the shelter. Next, the 3D-CFD modelling run by Fluidyn gives the detail of the transient pressure impact during the methane explosion in the shelter and after the door bursts.
