Overflow following a catastrophic tank failure
Context and objectives
Heathrow airport wants to assess the consequences in case of catastrofic flammable liquid tank failures. After a first assessment, the obkective is to design and evaluate the performance of mitigation measures.
Our success
Tank rupture numerical modelling is used to assess the overflow following a loss of containment through a catastrophic tank failure. Pool spreading inside the retention and flammable liquid behaviour outside the retention have been modeled. Different mitigation measures design have been studied to limit the liquid overflow and reduce the impacted areas.
